🏞️ Mountain riverThe Province of Rio Negro has a great geographical diversity, taking its name from the most important river that crosses the province. A national territory until 1955, this province is part of the Patagonia region, an axis of chains of attractions of high heritage value that runs from the Andes Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. Before the arrival of the Spaniards, this territory was home to four ethnic groups of indigenous peoples: Tehuelches, Puelches, Huarpes or Pehuenches, and Mapuches. As for the climate, it offers in the east and north a variety of arid temperate, with short summers and intense winters. In the mountain range area, it is cold and humid, due to the influence of westerly winds, with high rainfall. If you are in this region, you must absolutely visit the Nahuel Huapi National Park. In 1903, Perito Francisco Pascasio Moreno donated to the Argentine national government an area of three leagues located in the area of Puerto Blest, in the province of Río Negro, on condition that they are preserved intact and for the benefit of future generations. These lands now constitute the Parque Nacional del Sud: the first national park in Latin America, currently known as Nahuel Huapi. The protected area was also home to Argentina's first forest nursery, which has now been consolidated into an internationally renowned botanical garden.
